Stillness Is Power
Let me confess something right off the bat:
I was not naturally good at stillness.
I used to be a multitasking queen—juggling emails, errands, coaching calls, coffee dates, and color-coded to-do lists with sub-lists. You name it, I did it. Fast. Loud. All at once.
Stillness?
I treated it like a luxury. Or worse—a weakness.
Then I broke my back.
And just like that, my world stopped.
Suddenly, I was bed-bound, 24/7, for over seven weeks. My brilliant acupuncturist began visiting me at home three days a week. And during that time, I was gifted a masterclass in doing absolutely nothing. No pushing. No hustling. No performing.
Just rest.
Just healing.
Just stillness.
I went from busier than a mosquito at a nudist colony to stiller than a cat sunbathing on a windowsill.
And that “literal” break?
It cracked open a new way of being.
The First Few Hours: Restless and Raw
Let’s be honest—doing nothing sounds romantic… until you actually try it.
At first, I was itchy with guilt.
My mind screamed:
“You should be doing more than lying here healing!”
“You’re wasting time!”
“Check your email—just in case!”
My inner productivity monster had a full-blown panic attack.
But beneath that noise was something softer—something I hadn’t heard in a long time:
A deep, lingering fatigue.
A whisper of grief.
A flicker of inspiration I’d been ignoring.
Stillness doesn’t come quietly at first.
It arrives with a loud, demanding presence.
It dares you to meet yourself fully—without distraction.
The Magic of the Middle
But then…After I healed my back, something shifted.
I began to spend time in my garden "grounding" and being with nature.
I rested when my body asked, and soaked in sage wisdom from trusted sources.
I started guarding my time, energy, calendar, and soul like a precious vault.
And wouldn’t you know it?
My creativity returned.
Not in a flashy “Let’s build an empire!” way—
But in soft sparks:
✨ A new workshop idea
✨ A phrase that wanted to be a poem
✨ A sudden clarity around a decision I'd been avoiding
Stillness created space.
And in that space…
My nervous system settled.
My intuition got louder.
My soul exhaled.
What Stillness Taught Me
Here are just a few of the unexpected treasures I unearthed:
1. Clarity Lives in the Quiet
The answers I’d been forcing finally whispered their way in—not through logic, but through presence.
2. My Nervous System Needed a Reboot
I had no idea how often I’d been stuck in fight-or-flight mode. Stillness taught my body how to rest truly—and reminded me I deserve to live there.
3. Slowness Is Not Laziness
We’ve been sold the lie that hustle = success. But in stillness, I found alignment that no checklist ever gave me. I no longer am in the "doing" dance, but in the dance of "being", and allowing what comes to me easily and effortlessly.
4. There’s Power in Being Unavailable
By stepping back, I reclaimed my energy. I didn’t check email. I didn’t answer texts. And guess what? The world kept spinning. Boundaries aren’t just about saying “no” to others—they’re about saying “yes” to yourself.
Stillness as a Daily Ritual
No, I didn’t become a mountaintop monk. I still love my work. I still juggle projects. I still occasionally fall into “just one more thing” mode.
But now, I weave micro-moments of stillness into each day:
☕ Sitting in my car for 3 extra minutes before going inside
🌿 Drinking tea without multitasking
🧘♀️ Lying on the floor and just breathing
🌅 Looking out the window instead of grabbing my phone
Tiny acts. Giant shift.
Stillness isn’t an escape—it’s a strategy.
It’s how I reconnect with my power source.
It’s where truth lives.
It’s where my next aligned step always reveals itself.
Stillness Is a Power Move—Especially for High Achievers
If you’re a leader, a giver, a doer… stillness might feel counterintuitive. Even selfish.
But here’s the truth:
You cannot pour from an empty pitcher.
You cannot create from depletion.
You cannot serve when you're spiritually bankrupt.
Stillness isn’t a pause from the work—
Stillness is the work.
And when you claim it—without guilt or apology—you permit others to do the same.
A Challenge for You
This week, I dare you:
Carve out 30 minutes of stillness.
No phone.
No emails.
No “just catching up on…”
Just. Stillness.
It might feel awkward at first.
That’s okay.
Sit with it.
Let your system soften.
Let your soul speak.
And then—just notice what returns to you.
